Poll / Feedback regarding a donation drive for future projects

 Hello Karyuudo fans!

We wanted to get some feedback on how everyone would feel if we set up some kind of donation system to help support our translators and fund future projects.  We feel that our translators have proven their value with several highly sought Transformers series being finally translated. 

As most of you are aware, we have never asked for money.  And while working on projects may be fun, they are very time consuming.  And at the end of the day our translators have bills to pay.

Any support provided would go directly to them since they're making the magic happen here.  

So what do you, our fans, get out of it?  

Well, many fans have reached out asking if series like Q-Transformers or the Japanese G1 Super Robot Lifeforms Transformers series could be fully translated.  If you had a say on which series would be translated next, would you support this initiative?

Those donating would have timed access to the subtitles for the series as we finished each episode, and before it would be released to everyone else publicly.  Donations would also be limited to the episodes that are being funded.  If you, the fans, didn't want to see a certain episode be funded, then it wouldn't happen.

Beast Wars Reborn Chapter 4

“Beast Wars Reborn: Chapter 4 of 4, The Extraordinary Reformat”

The story so far: A game set by Soundblaster moved the stage from the temple in space, to the jungle-covered planet; Animatros in the time way before the war over the “Grand Black Hole” had taken place!

“Megatron and I were eternal arch-enemies in a war that once divided a world into two.” 

While passing through the native biosphere of Planet Animatros, Convoy told his personal story to Saidos.

"At the last phase of the war, we collided against each other on our home planet, staking our very world, race and souls. In the end, we were broken down into particles at the center of the planet, and we became the foundation of a new world.  Two individual’s Sparks scattered about, melted together and became one with our planet."

“It’s like a fairy tale.  So then, you, who became a planet, how did you end up on a remote planet like this?”

The background story was easy: Soundblaster wanted a successor, thus he separated their Sparks from the very earth of planet Seibertron, and resurrected them in this unknown region of the stars.  But then contrary words slipped from Convoy’s mouth. 

“I, too, would like to know why.”

With Saidos guiding him, Convoy was escorted to an underground temple, called “Rectangle Valley”.  This was one of the few sites which had mechanical technology which were scattered throughout the Transformers’ habitat.  This was the perfect location to acquire the information on the “rite of succession” which was said to be recorded on the golden disk.

Meanwhile, Convoy being a natural space explorer, was greatly intrigued by the unique planetary environment of Animatros. Especially unusual about it, not only in its appearance on the ground surface, but everywhere on this planet was filled with some sort of psionic energy which wrapped the whole of Animatros like an aura. According to the robotic priests of the temple, this was the effect of an ancient treasure called the “Planet Force” which was brought by Transformers on a spacecraft who visited long ago.

The origins of the Animatros world did not match any historical viewpoint known to Convoy.  The only way he could think of was that after all, this universe was completely different from the world he knew. Convoy dismissed those thoughts and rushed to decipher the disk with the priests.  At any moment, Megatron could storm in and recapture the disk.

Two days later, there was no sign of Megatron showing up, and that, on the other hand, was heightening Convoy’s anxiety. Was Megatron not showing up because he did not need the disk anymore?

(Soundblaster had sealed away the memories of Megatron and I, and we were exposed to the power of the temple in our blank slates.  This was to allow us to learn about the power of controlling space-time without fighting against each other... But at that time, I was distracted about my past, while Megatron was acquiring as much as he could about the secrets of the temple and the disk.  Perhaps at that time, he had already acquired the information he needed about the “succession”…!)

Convoy’s guess pretty much hit the mark.  Megatron had accomplished decoding the confidential data from the golden disk and started taking the steps of the “succession” on his own. He first attacked a group of dinosaur-type Transformers that lived in a valley, and without much effort, overthrew their leader, “Scavenge”.

“You offer no resistance at all. Have none of you even realized the blessings from the Planet Force yet?”

“What the hell are you talking about, you outsider!?”

The group of warriors who had lost their boss then went into a frenzy.

“That’s right, I AM from a different world!  Therefore in order to use the power of this planet, I need to reformat myself anew to adapt to this particular space and time. And, the fastest way to do that is…”

Using his right-handed dinosaur head, Megatron had it bite into the external terminal section located on Scavenge’s back.

“…to get the seal of covenant that is engraved and wasted on your bodies!”

Then, he pulled out a triangular shaped inductive device out of the victim's body, assembled it into his own left arm and connected it directly into his neural net. Flowing through Megatron’s whole body like raging waves, swarms of mechanical particles which made up the anatomy were activated and rapidly reconfigured him. And then, finally changing his appearance from an organic beast warrior, into the form of an Animatros-type metamorphic Transmetal robot!

“Convoy, I have received the ‘sacred crest’.  I am now ready to accept the ‘Zeonomicon’!” 

Meanwhile, two Ancients who were battling in the spiritual world finally came to a conclusion. Vector Prime had used his sword to slice Soundblaster's body into a V shape and the enemy finally ceased motion. However, this wasn’t truly his end.

This Astral body of Soundblaster’s was merely one fragment of his spirit torn into many thousands more. Then, he determined to try and spiritually fuse with his former comrade.

...he is destined to disappear … his existence, to disappear from all of time… and only his “power” will be left behind… any traces of him will be turned into absolute nothingness… a successor… that is the only proof of existence… this power should be handed to the worst one… revenge on the universe… there is no such thing as a suitable successor… it’s impossible for it to exist… impose a test… an unexpected situation… a beast of time...

With that, it had become unbearable for Vector Prime and had to unbind their fusion.  What a devastated and miserable soul he had.  Even so, …what exactly was that last image…?  He really had no idea, and eventually it became an eternal mystery.

The next day, leading an army of predatory beast-type Transformers, Megatron finally attacked the underground temple.  Convoy, standing bravely along the valley walls, confronted his enemies head-on.

“Would you be so kind as to return MY golden disk?!”

“Your appearance… it looks like you’ve obtained the “sacred crest”.  What kind of dirty method did you use?”  Convoy rebuked him.

“You’re sounding like you’ve also succeeded in decoding the disk.  Then you already know the real worth of this body, see it for yourself!”

When Megatron raised his left arm high, Convoy was able to see the slot-shaped energy reception terminal had been formed on the area where the sacred crest was transplanted.

“FORCE CHIP!”

Megatron’s left arm which had read the energy code of the “Force Chip” suddenly caused internal changes, and generated the functions that were not there originally. It was as if a hidden power within him was unleashed by some type of magical key, a fusion missile launcher appeared out of his body, and opened fire on the underground temple, blowing it to smithereens. So tremendous that power, that both enemy and ally trembled with fear.  This was the historical moment where the “Ignition phenomenon” had occurred for the first time on the planet Animatros.

“You see, this is the way to connect with the supernatural power.  The Zeonomicon is also Soundblaster’s power turned into a Force Chip.  Only by acquiring this body, one can connect to it…  What exactly have YOU been doing up until now?”

“Laying the groundwork'', said Convoy as he shrugged his shoulders. 

To be able to summon the Zeonomicon at the final stage of the "rite of succession", the golden disk must be installed at an obelisk which was built within the mouth of a volcano, which was just beyond the two mountain ranges from the valley where they were standing. Whatever that meant, Megatron was already one step ahead.

“It’s impossible for you to recover your position since you do not even carry the sacred crest.  Now, do you want to hand over the disk and die, or have the disk pulled from your dead corpse?”

Convoy fearlessly laughed.

“Unfortunately, it’s not necessarily the case that the sacred crest is needed to execute the ‘reformat’".

“What?”, said Megatron with confusion.

At that moment, Saidos suddenly appeared, carrying a large item from across the valley.

“It’s what you’ve asked for, take it!”  Without a moment of delay, he threw the item across to Convoy.

“The Planet Force?!”  Megatron was stunned by the item that Convoy had received.  It was a sacred treasure itself, framed in gold, the source of the psionic field on the planet.

"The current owner of that thing - the general governor, is quite a reasonable person, you know,” said Saidos.  “I wonder if a concept such as, “cooperation in good will” is not in Megatron’s dictionary?”

Convoy activated his rear jets and rose high in the sky, and held the Planet Force with both hands, then prayed fervently.

“Planet Force… a fragment of Primus’ life… I don’t wish for power; I only ask you to bestow me a way of breaking the chains of destiny!”

A brilliant light illuminated the area, and Convoy’s reformatting had begun. The metamorphosis took place instantly, and he, too, was changed into a robot form unique to Animatros. His body was divided into two modules, one of which was reconfigured as a hover board to enhance his airborne mobility. The Force Chip receptor was humbly formed at the rear edge of the board, as if it were reflecting his will. Convoy came flying in to the rock shadow where Saidos was, and handed him the sacred treasure over to him and said:

“Thank you, my friend. And thank the governor, too.''

Then he climbed rapidly and rushed toward the mountains.

Megatron grinding his teeth, straddled onto a giant flying dragon-shaped warrior and followed the flight path of the board.

“Convoy, you think you’re so smart… however, the match isn’t over yet!!”

Then, the two eternal enemies disappeared from the sight of Saidos and the priests.  No one has seen the conclusion of their battle--- However, Saidos was convinced that the fact a new day keeps arriving to Animatros, was the best possible answer to the outcome of that battle.

FAQ (Also known as please read first before asking questions) :)

Question: What do I need to download this?

Answer: To be able to download these, you will need a BitTorrent client. We recommend either qBittorrent or Deluge.  Both BitTorrent clients will do the job with no advertisements or hidden surprises.

Once you install the application, you're ready to download from the torrent. Download and open the .torrent file, add it to your torrent program, and the application will do the rest.

Once your download is complete, you can view this release with VLC or Media Player Classic

Question: Will you release these on DVDs?

Answer: Sorry, we have no plans to do this.

Question: What are you planning on subtitling next?

Answer: No idea at the moment, but since there’s lots of untranslated material out there, I’m sure we’ll find something.

Question: Was this series very difficult to translate?

Answer: Yes and no. If a non-native Japanese were to translate this series on their own, there would probably be something lost or misinterpreted in the translation. Thankfully for our team, we have a wonderful friend and teammate named Taka-chan, who is a native born Japanese and fluent in both languages. She, like all of us, is a huge Transformer fan, and took a lot of time out of her busy schedule over the past year and a half to script and translate each episode. If there’s anyone you should be thanking for this series to have been translated, it’s her. :) On top of translating, there’s research that was needed to be done, since sometimes there’s references to old TV shows and movies in the series, and this needed to be explained. All of these instances have been recorded in the translator notes.

Question: Why are some of the character’s names different than certain Transformers fan and resource sites as well as from the IDW Beast Wars Sourcebook?

Answer: There are many Transformers fan sites out there which are great resources, with many fans devoting much time to put the information out there to help others understand / fill in the gaps on many different Transformers series. With respect to everyone, fan sites are not official (and neither are we) on how the character’s names are written. There is also some disagreement with how the IDW Beast Wars Sourcebook was created; and how many fans didn’t agree with the way some of the character’s names were spelled and their bios’ were written, since most of reference material was based from a fan page. For example, Colada is spelled Cohrada in the IDW Sourcebook.  This is due to Ben Yee’s writing the character profiles based off an early VHS sub of a few episodes almost 20 years ago.  After some discussion and a poll on the Allspark forums, it was decided to correct this by using the spelling which is named from the second of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar’s (El Cid) swords, the Colada.  At the end of the day, it’s how one interprets it based on the katakana characters.

Question: I would like to customize the subtitles for myself; how do I do that?

Answer: There’s a site called MKVToolNix which hosts various tools to extract the subtitles with. Once to extract the files you can edit them with a subtitling program called Aegisub. We’ve also included the fonts we used in the package so that they appear the same in your customized authored version. Generally speaking, most fan groups like to burn or hard subtitle their files into the video to prevent others from using them. However, we don’t follow this same practice and leave ours as soft subtitles, allowing one to turn them on or off while watching.

Question: I’d like to use your subtitles and translate this show into my native language and publicly release this. Are you OK with me doing this?

Answer: Absolutely! We kindly ask that you contact us either by PM, or on our Facebook page before doing so, as well as providing us the credit in the subtitles with your release. The more that others can get to watch and enjoy this series in their native language, the better it is for the entire community. :)

Question: For some reason, it doesn’t look like VLC is using the fonts properly. How can I fix this?

Answer: You can either copy all the fonts provided in the Extras folder into your fonts folder within C:\Windows\Fonts or right click on each of them included in the package and install them. Unfortunately, since we don’t use either OSX or Linux, we cannot provide any advice on how to install these on those operating systems. However Google can help you with that :)

Question: Are you getting compensated somehow?

Answer: No. Just as we did Car Robots, Zone, Legends of the Microns, and Beast Wars II, we do these projects for free and for fans to enjoy, and are not to be sold in any shape or form. This series in particular is considered one of the last holy grail's among fans, and we’re excited to be able to finally share it with everyone. We hope everyone appreciates the hard work and hundreds of hours that went into creating this.

Answer: By all means, do ask, and we’ll do the best we can to answer.

Beast Wars Neo... almost at the finish line

Hey Karyuudo Fans,

Just a quick note to let everyone know we're almost at the finish line with Beast Wars Neo as we've just completed episode 34.  

We appreciate everyone's patience as we've worked tirelessly to get to his point.  We really hope you're all looking forward to the release which should be ready in the coming weeks.  

Once the release is ready, you'll see it posted here on our blog.  While we'd love to give an actual release date, we would rather ensure we're not rushed to hold to a certain timeframe. 

Keep checking back often as we look forward to closing the chapter on the final Transformers series in the G1 timeline.

Holiday wishes from all of us

Hi everyone,

As another year comes to a close, we look forward to 2019 and where our work as fansubbers will lead us next.

In the coming months we look forward to closing the final chapter on the Japanese Beast Wars series, Beast Wars Neo.  To date, we've completed 26 out of the 35 episodes.  So while we're slowly approaching the finish line, we still have some work to do.  As a small gift to the community to hold everyone over until it's completed, we're giving you a preview of Episode 14 titled "Ship's Log".  This episode provides highlights from the first 13 episodes of the series.  We hope you enjoy this small sample of what's to come. 

Whether you're celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or simply just taking time out to spend it with your families, the Karyuudo Fansubs team would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.

Beast Wars Neo Progress Update...

Hey Karyuudo Fans,

Many of you have been anticipating the release of Beast Wars Neo since we announced it earlier this year.  We wanted to give you an update since it's now getting closer to the end of 2018.

Unfortunately, we've had several set backs over the past few months, due to unforeseen circumstances, such as work, family commitments, and health (ie: our translator Taka-chan had pneumonia and was out of commission for some time). Given this, we'll ultimately have to push the release into 2019.  We don't have an exact date yet, but we will provide an update shortly before the release date. 

At this point in time, we've completed 21 episodes out of 35, so we've still got a good number to go.  We realize that many of you were looking forward to having a release date before the end of 2018, however, given the current time it takes to complete a translation of each episode, we don't believe this will be possible.

We really appreciate everyone's understanding and support over the years for our projects.  Our team always aims to give the fans out there the best possible translation.  For the Transformers community, this is something we've all waited almost 20 years to see translated into English.  Our team is committed to ensuring you're delivered what we've promised. 

While you're waiting for our release, you may want to pre-order that Big Convoy re-issue to support Takara-Tomy. Or possibly start picking up some other Beast Wars Neo toys on the second hand market before the prices may go up!
