FAQ (Also known as please read first before asking questions) :)

Question: What do I need to download this?
Answer: To be able to download these, you will need a BitTorrent client. We recommend Deluge, a simple BitTorrent client that will do the job with no advertisements or hidden surprises.

Once you install the application, you're ready to download from the torrent. Download and open the .torrent file, add it to Deluge, and the application will do the rest.

Once your download is complete, you can view this release with VLC.

Question: Will you release these on DVDs?
Answer: Sorry, we have no plans to do this.

Question: Are you planning on subtitling Beast Wars Neo?
Answer: We have no plans at this time to subtitle Beast Wars Neo. It doesn’t mean that we won’t do it, but we’ve just spent the past year putting together this project for everyone, so we need a break. :)

Question: Was this series very difficult to translate?
Answer: Yes and no. If a non-native Japanese were to translate this series on their own, there would probably be something lost or misinterpreted in the translation. Thankfully for our team, we have a wonderful friend and teammate named TAKA, who is a native born Japanese and fluent in both languages. She, like all of us, is a huge Transformer fan, and took a lot of time out of her busy schedule over the past year to script and translate the first draft of each episode. If there’s anyone you should be thanking for this series to have been translated, it’s her. :) On top of translating, there’s research that was needed to be done, since sometimes there’s references to old TV shows and movies in the series, and this needed to be explained. All of these instances have been recorded in the translator notes.

Question: Are you planning on translating all of the Japanese dub of Beast Wars and Beast Wars Metals since you have those two specials in the collection?
Answer: No. We did those two special episodes as an bonus for everyone, since they came on the same DVD as the Beast Wars II movie. We felt that doing this would give Western fans an idea on some of the changes to the dialogue that was done. We hope you enjoy them!

Question: Why are some of the character’s names different than certain Transformers fan and resource sites as well as from the IDW Beast Wars Sourcebook?
Answer: There are many Transformers fan sites out there which are great resources, with many fans devoting much time to put the information out there to help others understand / fill in the gaps on many different Transformers series. With respect to everyone, fan sites are not official (and neither are we) on how the character’s names are written. There is also some disagreement with how the IDW Beast Wars Sourcebook was created; and how many fans didn’t agree with the way some of the character’s names were spelled and their bios’ were written, since most of reference material was based from a fan page. Additionally, the spelling of some character’s names varies depending on which Japanese media related material you’re looking at. With that in mind, we’ve spelled the characters names on how we as a group felt. With several names such as Tasmanian Kid versus Tasmania Kid, or Autocrusher versus Autocrasher, there’s several ways you can write them into English. Bottom line, it’s how one interprets it based on the katakana characters.

Question: I would like to customize the subtitles for myself; how do I do that?
Answer: There’s a site called MKVToolNix which hosts various tools to extract the subtitles with. Once to extract the files you can edit them with a subtitling program called Aegisub. We’ve also included the fonts we used in the package so that they appear the same in your customized authored version. Generally speaking, most fan groups like to burn or hard subtitle their files into the video to prevent others from using them. However, we don’t follow this same practice and leave ours as soft subtitles, allowing one to turn them on or off while watching.

Question: I’d like to use your subtitles and translate this show into my native language and publicly release this. Are you OK with me doing this?
Answer: Absolutely! We kindly ask that you contact us either by PM, or on our Facebook page before doing so, as well as providing us the credit in the subtitles with your release. The more that others can get to watch and enjoy this series in their native language, the better it is for the entire community. :)

Question: For some reason, it doesn’t look like VLC is using the fonts properly. How can I fix this?
Answer: You can either copy all the fonts provided in the Extras folder into your fonts folder within C:\Windows\Fonts or right click on each of them included in the package and install them. Unfortunately, since I don’t use either OSX or Linux, I cannot provide any advice on how to install these on those operating systems. However Google can help you with that :)

Question: Are you getting compensated somehow?
Answer: No. Just as we did Car Robots, Zone and Legends of the Microns, we do these projects for free and for fans to enjoy. This series in particular is considered one of the holy grail's among fans, and we’re excited to be able to finally share it with everyone. We hope everyone appreciates the hard work and hundreds of hours that went into creating this.

Question: I have something I want to ask that wasn’t covered here.
Answer: By all means, do ask, and we’ll do the best we can to answer.

For those who've checked out the original Car Robots release that we did, you'll notice (other than the dubbing) that this series features a number of edits which differ from the Japanese version.

Utada United 2006 WOWOW 720p - Re-release

Back in 2007 Karyuudo Fansubs translated one of our all-time favorite concerts, Utada United 2006.

Recently we were able to acquire a HD Broadcast from WOWOW of this same concert and felt it justified a re-release.

Our subtitles include translations of all the songs as well as Hikki's dialogue with her fans in the crowd.

We hope that if you didn't have a chance the first time around to get this release, that this will make up for it.

Enjoy!

Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire

Karyuudo Fansubs is pleased to announce the last project for 2014:

Rurouni Kenshin The Great Kyoto Fire

Video: 1080p
Audio: AC3
Subs: English

Notes: The original Warner Bros subs that were provided for the international release of Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Inferno were decent, however there was a lot that was left out of the translation and also there was several lines of dialogue that were altered which wasn't consistent to what was on screen.
Our translation fixes this, providing far more detail as well as sticking to the pre-established names in the Rurouni Kenshin universe.

Post Release Feedback, Future Releases, Details on Bringing a Project to Light

Hey everyone,

By now, a number of you have been able to get your hands on our latest release, Transformers: Legends of the Microns. Once again, we're very happy to have helped bring closure to another Japanese Transformers series in the community.

Through browsing the various forums out there, we've been reading the feedback from many folks, and again it's wonderful to hear the positive feedback. We also don't mind to hear some criticism as it helps us think more on what we should do for our future releases.

Several folks have posted questions about what series are we going to do next. As with Car Robots and Legends of the Microns it was completely due to circumstance and timing that these series were done. The begging question for most folks out there is are we going to do Beast Wars The Second and Beast Wars Neo. I wish I could give a simple yes answer. But it's not that easy to do either of these series. For one, they use a lot of regional dialect, that I myself am not familiar with, and cultural terms that will take some time to translate. It also will depend on the kind of commitment we have from our team to do this. With Car Robots, we were lucky that we had help from so many different people who chipped in their time to script for us out of their busy lives. Even with scripts, it took countless hours and days of translating to get just 1 episode completed.

For those who've never taken a shot at translating and timing a series, it does take a long time to do it properly. Many times, you'll translate something and then realize weeks later that there's a better way of translating and will go back to change it. This back and forth is what takes up a lot of time. As translators, we don't simply translate once and leave it, we're always coming back to tweak it so that it sounds natural and it makes sense. Then top that off with small grammar errors and realizing that something was mistimed by accident, and then the next thing you realize is that hours have added up! This only gives you a brief overview of what we deal with here when trying to bring a series out. Hopefully, though it makes you appreciate the kind of commitment that gets brought in when doing these series. If we can get that kind of commitment again, we can get shows like Beast Wars The Second and Beast Wars Neo done.

On the subject of translating Transformers Prime and Transformers Animated, I can definitely say this will not be happening. The reason is, is because Prime finished in Japan at the end of season 2 and it was basically left for dead. There's no reason to translate this since the show was originally a US run production and the version we got was the definitive version. As far Transformers Animated, the show isn't that much different in Japanese other than the Opening and Ending animations, the songs and a few characters names that went with it. I don't feel it justifies a translation since again, what we got here was the way it originally was intended to be seen.

Anyway, if you have any questions or comments we're always willing to answer them via the comments section on this blog or via our Facebook page. If you're interested in helping us out, whether it be scripting, translating or timing, we're only a message away.

We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season and we're happy that 2014 brought several series to the fans out there to enjoy. Take care everyone, and we'll see what 2015 has in store for us!

All the best,
Karyuudo

It's been an absolute pleasure working with DeceptichopBusters in bringing this project to life. Without his help the project would still be ongoing. At this point, I'll turn the text over to him below to explain the details of this release.

Hello, you can call me DeceptichopBusters.

I joined as a guest to help Karyuudo complete this wonderful project. For the past 6 months, we have been putting almost daily effort into delivering this Holiday surprise to the community. I know some will object that this isn't the series they wanted released next, and believe me, I sympathize... but the simple truth is that both of us independently started this project, then decided to collaborate around last July after we realized we could combine our resources (subtitle timing, a person who owns the actual discs, 2 translators working together) and get this project done much faster than any other show could be. I'd say 5-6ish months is a pretty swift record when it comes to how quickly an entire 52 episode show can be fansubbed, wouldn't you? Don't worry, I have a feeling this won't be the last Transformers related release you see from this group either.

However, there's more to it than that. The simple truth is, as I came to see the original Japanese release, I realized how criminally underrated this show is. More to the point, the original characterizations of just about everyone was much more consistent in the original Japanese script, which is important because this has a cast of Transformer characters that is much more interesting than what you typically see in a Japanese TF series, both earlier and later shows. They took a few pages from Beast Wars approach to development. Sight gags common in other Japanese TF shows are kept to a minimum, humor itself is character based rather than just outright wacky, many members of the cast go through at least some development and growth, and there are consistent themes and ideas that are discussed throughout the series (the violent nature of the Transformers, trust and comradery, ect.). Now you have the chance to see the show as it was MEANT to be seen.

First, let's discuss animation. There is much that was fixed in the Japanese version, which actually aired later than the US release since it wasn't being rushed to air early. Not all, but numerous animation errors we saw on US TV were fixed either in the JP TV airing, or on the DVD release, with episodes like 3, 21, 23, and even later ones like 50 getting a lot of attention. They touched up things here and there throughout the whole show, and while it is not by any means the best looking anime of 2003, the overall improvement is definitely noticeable. I hope you'll enjoy finally seeing it, it will be especially important for fans of the next topic.

Next, let's take a moment to talk about the dub. It certainly has left the show with an infamous reputation, and frankly, there were good reasons behind it. Most western fans only saw Transformers Armada, which though it had a solid dub cast (Ocean Studio with many Beast Wars vets, all of whom I love dearly), it was an experiment in a simultaneous West/East anime release that wasn't entirely successful. Cartoon Network pushed heavily to get the show ready by fall 2002. Animation was often either rushed or outright incomplete, and the scripts... I can only assume the dub staff was working under an immense time crunch, because they had no proper proofing, leading to numerous name mistakes, illogical changes, or outright omissions of important character themes. However, the dub for all its flaws, still has its merits... and there were many fans of it, so I have gone through painstaking efforts to edit and mix it with the Japanese video source. Karyuudo also jumped in to fix a syncing issue in Episode 1 where the audio from Armada didn't match the animation from the Japanese version since it was sped up in the Armada release. Why is this important? Well, you can now switch between the Japanese and English audio with the push of a button, and dub fans now get ALL the animation improvement that the Japanese version received, something many people have wanted for a LONG time. Furthermore, I have edited the audio so that it mixes in perfectly with the Japanese opening, endings, and eye-catches. Effectively, you're getting the dub as if this were on a high quality dual audio DVD. This took a LOT of work, and not every episode will sync up 100% frame for frame perfect, but if there even IS a margin of error in ANY episode, it will be extremely small due to the fact that the dub timing didn't cut out anything for the TV airing, save one clip in episode 52, and a sped up sequence in ep 1's opening, all episodes were able to sync as perfectly as possible. Even the US Armada ED theme is used for the dubbed next episode previews because... well, that song was pretty cool and I didn't want it to go to waste.

Finally, let me explain a bit about the second (and third) subtitle track. Japan used different names for the Autobots and Decepticons up until 2007 when they stopped producing their own shows. They call these factions the Cybertrons and Destrons, Optimus is Convoy, Cybertron is Seibertron (to avoid confusion with the faction) ect. Ect. I decided to do a second sub track that changed these names only, because the goal was to give the audience Legends of the Microns as if it had been localized with absolutely minimal changes. Almost all other characters in the original script use G1 names most viewers will know, just a somewhat different selection than what the dub used (Demolishor = Ironhide, Red Alert = Ratchet), so there wasn't really a big need to change much else. Convoy wasn't just indiscriminately changed to Optimus Prime either. I rotated between Prime, Optimus, ect. based on what was most character appropriate to say. We're not the first group to do this name swap, but as far as I know, we ARE the first group to offer 2 sub tracks with both. In addition, there is a third subtitle track with credits/lyrics for the dub only if you're just watching that. Hope you enjoy these additions!

Lastly, let me give my thanks and shout-outs to those who I want to get proper credit here.

Thanks to Karyuudo for everything he's already done for Car Robots and that amazing release, and for his help and dedication with this. Also for the trouble of getting all the credits done and timed properly for each episode, which I never could've done on my own! We split the responsibility between who translated what episodes, and without him, this release wouldn'tve gotten done as quickly as it was, if at all... and especially not with this much quality. Also thanks to Walruslaw for collecting all of our neat extras as well as Gyumaoh for providing the 2003 Year Book which is now a rare out of print book!

Thanks to TMI for actually providing the real life DVDs to the community to be ripped. He's an encoder I've worked with on other projects over the years, and I always knew he owned the discs, but this year he finally offered to upload them on ADC so they could properly get ripped.

Thanks to FortMax/BunnyHat for ripping the ISOs that TM then provided. I haven't had the chance to talk with him personally, but the entire purpose of getting those raws online was for this project. Of course, as he always does, FortMax gets them up and out to the public swiftly and easily, which I have no problem with. Thank him for the really good video quality this release got!

And also a thanks to TFW2005 forum member Kaijumaster for being one of the people to consistently keep me in this crazy fandom so I'd be inspired to someday do this project.

And finally, thanks for all the support you as the community have given us. This includes the truly kind people I've met in person, as well as online. Without such a passionate and dedicated fandom, this wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable to do as it is.

I hope you guys take some time and give Legends of the Microns another shot, even if Armada wasn't your favorite. Yes, even with the kids, you will be pleasantly surprised by just how much better the show can be in this release. Til next time!
